Electric Motor Reliability Trifecta: Quality Control (Part 1)

Trifecta refers to picking the top three finishers in a horse race, and it can be worth a lot of money. Applying that to motor reliability, what are the top three applications of test technology to ensure you win big in reliability? Quality control, trending, and troubleshooting. Today we will be exploring quality control.

Quality control doesn’t end at the warehouse. According to a study by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), 46% of the faults that reduce motor efficiency are caused by something outside of the motor. Things like power quality or power circuit anomalies, for example. Quality control starts with a new or refurbished motor and continues through the warehouse, pre-installation, and post-installation. Make sure that the beginning of the working life of a motor starts out right to ensure maximum life expectancy.
