Position Summary

Proto fosters long-lasting relationships by consistently delivering outstanding service, unmatched innovation, and superior PVC covers and jacketing systems for the insulation industry. The maintenance department is responsible for maximizing equipment operation through the Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) methodology. The overall objective of this position is to lead the maintenance department from a reactive “fail & repair” culture towards a pro-active system dependent one resulting maximum/safe operation of equipment, building, and environment. This position requires to be a member of and contributing to the Lean Cultural change now being implemented.

Essential Accountabilities

  • Must have experience troubleshooting Rockwell Automation Logix 500 and Studio 5000, Factory Talk, Allen Bradley VFD Powerflex, GE Fanuc, Yasakawa servo drives.
  • Capture of equipment downtime data to drive the maintenance continuous improvement plan.
  • Decrease maintenance costs by tracking PM completion rates and scheduling equipment downtime for “fixed time repairs” based on OEM recommendations and/or run history.
  • Maintain orderings necessary spare parts for all critical equipment and identify high frequency wear components.
  • Create a daily work schedule to ensure technicians are effectively utilized. Ensure safety procedures are followed and implement countermeasures for safety risks.
  • Evaluate/revise current work order system so a work backlog is known and can be prioritized. Foster interdepartmental communication and collaborations to ensure all maintenance related issues are addressed and resolved in a timely and efficient manner, especially safety items.
  • Work with OEM vendors to ensure equipment meets Proto’s requirements and work diligently to resolve technical issues in a professional and timely manner. Determine if outsourcing some repairs is cost effective.
  • Maximize the use of the Micromain computer maintenance system.
  • Implement a sustainable 5S program in the maintenance shop.
  • Extrusion experience preferred, but not required. A strong electrical/mechanical knowledge is beneficial.
  • Implement the Lean TPM program with a focus on “Predictive and Preventive Maintenance” systems.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications

  • BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Associates degree or relevant work experience is acceptable

Experience

  • 4-6 years of relevant experience required
  • 8-10 years of relevant experience, preferred.

  • Computers and Electronics — Knowledge of computer hardware and software, including applications and programming such as Microsoft Office Business Suite and Micromain maintenance software.
  • Verbal & Written Communication Skills – This position requires basic skills (Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.)
  • Math Skills – This position requires minimal skills (add, subtract, etc.)

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

Physical Requirement: Demanding. Must have ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Employee must be able to sit, climb or balance, hear, use hands, stoop, kneel, crouch, stand, walk, talk, and reach with hands and arms.

Working Conditions: Duties performed in a manufacturing plant environment: can be high heat, high humidity, exposure to mechanical parts, exposure to potential toxic or caustic chemicals with fumes and/or airborne particles.

Overtime: Required as necessary.

Hours: Shifts vary and last a minimum of 8 hours.
